Royal Henley resident Yvonne Armstrong turns 101 years old on April 15th. Yvonne has lived here for 3 years and we are thrilled to celebrate another birthday with her! Yvonne was born in Coniston, Ontario in 1917 and lived with her grandparents until the age of 14. She then decided to move to Toronto to “Spread her wings” and pursue her dreams. Yvonne attended St. Michael’s School and lived at the Cathedral for 7 years. At age 21 she continued to work at the Cathedral during the day and took short hand courses at night to help with her career decisions. While she worked at the Cathedral she then took on a second job at Brown’s Bread to save enough money to buy herself her first bungalow home.
A cherishable moment of Yvonne’s life that she shared is when she met and married a man who had served in the war and the main method of communication for them was through letters. Yvonne still keeps these letters close to her heart until this day.
Yvonne always enjoyed giving back to the community and spent 30 years volunteering for the Canadian Cancer Society driving clients to their appointments as well she spent 30 years volunteering at the Cathedral Church here in St. Catharines in which she helped prepare food for the “Out of the Cold Program”. Yvonne enjoys an active lifestyle here at The Royal Henley filling her days with BINGO, regular exercise classes, enjoying entertainment in the Lounge and Aquafit classes in our Heated Salt Water Pool. At 101 Yvonne continues to amaze us and this March she surprised the crowd by being a model in our Annual Spring Fashion Show! Very impressive!
Happy Birthday Yvonne from your Royal Henley Family!!
